If you are applying to have a material approval renewed or modified, the test requirement letter will be changing.
We are making changes to the test requirements letter to simplify the presentation of test requirements and to clearly communicate all of the tests that need to be performed to comply with the standard.
It is a requirement of BS 6920 that odour flavour testing should not be performed until an assessment has been conducted to protect the health of laboratory test panellists.
The standard specifies performing cytotoxicity testing unless details of chemical composition and process of manufacture of the sample(s) are known and have been assessed.
To make this requirement more transparent, WRAS are including the test as part of the requirement letter and will require the results to be reported.
If a product fails a cytotoxicity test the odour and flavour test should not be performed.
If a laboratory chooses to perform a toxicological assessment of a material based of composition and manufacturing process, WRAS will require a declaration confirming the material is not hazardous to the health of the panellists.
WRAS has also included a clarification regarding termination of testing if the appearance of the test water raises concerns
