Section Code 2415 : Fittings in this section have been judged only against the requirements of The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (England and Wales), The Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014 or The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009. The decision of the Scheme to list them is not to be taken as any guide as to their effectiveness to do the job for which they have been designed. It should also be noted that there is a likelihood of some materials being leached into the water, which together with materials already in the water at source, could exceed the maximum limits set in the EC Directive on Water Quality and therefore it is recommended that before putting such units into service where the water may be ingested, advice should first be sought from the Water Supplier. Products in this section actively use copper for microorganism control purposes, which are subject to the EU Biocidal Products Regulation EU 528/2012. Following an earlier prohibition of the active use of copper the EU Commission decisions of 13 February and 26 June 2014 granted the UK limited essential use derogations for the control of legionella on safety grounds. The derogation limited the range of applications to treat drinking water and water for human use such as bathing, showering and swimming pools and for animal pools. Therefore systems using copper to actively control legionella microorganisms for these prescribed applications can currently be lawfully installed under The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Byelaws. Users should ensure these types of products are used in accordance with the authorisations issued by the HSE. Users should refer to the HSE website to keep themselves up to date on progress or for further information – www.hse.org.uk/ legionnaires/faqs.htm
